Ukrainian authorities continue negotiations on the major grain supplies in the UAE and the investment in Ukrainian agriculture after the visit of Sheikh

In the course of the visit of Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahayan from January, 31 to February, 3 this year in Ukraine there had been a delegation from the UAE led by His Excellency Hussain Jasim Al Novais (chairman of the board «General Holding Corporation»), authorized to continue negotiations on the export of grain and cooperation in agribusiness. The main purpose of the visit was the investment in the Ukrainian agricultural sector, large purchases of agricultural products and assets.

Business center “Ukraine – Middle East” organized meetings with the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine N. Prisyajnyuk, director general of the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine (GPZKU) Alexander Lavrinchukom and chairman of the State Enterprise “Land Fund” Sergei Svyatko.

The delegation included:

– Ilias Assimakopoulos – CEO Agthia company one of the leading companies in the UAE in the sphere of food production. 51% of shares belong to the Government of the UAE and includes four subsidiaries, each of which holds a leading position in the world market in producing water and soft drinks; flour and animal feed, tomato paste and frozen vegetables; concentrate tomato paste and fruit puree. The authorized capital is about $ 163 million; market capitalization is about 1.2 billion dollars;

– Emmanouil Trigkonis – General Manager of the direction of the production of flour and animal feed Grand Mills – one of the subsidiaries Agthia company;

– Abdulrahman Alhashmi – director of wholesale purchases in the direction of the production of flour and animal feed Grand Mills – one of the subsidiaries Agthia company;

– Ahmad El Bsat – Vice President of Business Development and Head Office Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation, the state investment company specializing in construction, metallurgy, chemical and petrochemical industries.

Recall that in November 2010 on the initiative and with the assistance of the Business Center “Ukraine – Middle East” in Ukraine there was the director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahayan, younger brother of current UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, head of the office of hereditary Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahayan, a member of the Executive Council (Government) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He had a meeting with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and Ukrainian Prime Minister N.Azarov, where they agreed on strategic cooperation in agriculture.
